What is the difference between a Kit and a Built Product?

In ecomdash, you have the option to create Kits and Built Products. Below describes the general differences between the two: 

Info about Kits:

You would use a Kit if you are selling items in bundles, whether that is multiples of the same item or combinations of different items. So for example if you sell a 3 pack of an item, you would create a Kit with the main product as the component and you would define that it takes three of the main item to make up the Kit. This way when it sells, we know to reduce the quantity of the main product by 3. You can also use it if you sell 3 different items together as a bundle. This way when we see the Kit SKU sell, we know to reduce the quantities of the 3 components of the Kit.

A Kit's quantity cannot be adjusted as it is simply calculated based on the quantity of the Kit's components that are on hand

You can also use Kits to sell the same item multiple times on the same storefront. So if you have SKU A listed three different times on the same storefront, this can cause issues as ecomdash will only be able to update one of the 3 listings. By using Kits, you can create three Kits (Kit A, Kit B, and Kit C). You will create a kit for each time this product is listed on your storefronts. Then you will assign the SKU as the component for all three Kits, so that any time one of the Kits sells (ex. Kit A), the SKU will be reduced which will in turn reduce the quantities of the other Kits (ex. Kit B and Kit C).

Info about Built Products:

This is used if you manufacture or build your items. You would use the work order process under Restock to create and process a Work Order. When you do this, we reduce Quantity on Hand of the raw materials or components that make up the built item, as well as increase the Quantity on Hand of the finished item upon the completion of the Work Order.

In short, the big difference is that the quantity of the components of a Kit are reduced upon sale, while the quantity of the components of a Built Product are reduced upon the completion of a Work Order.
