In ecomdash, a Built Product is an inventory item that is assembled from one or more components. A Built Product is composed of a Built Product SKU and one or more component SKUs. Quantity is assigned to a Built Product when a Work Order is completed. A Work Order is used to reduce quantity from the Component Products and add quantity to the Built Product. This assembly process allows you to track and account for labor costs associated with the assembly process if there are any.
Built Products have several common uses in ecomdash. Examples are provided below:
Manufactured/Assembled Goods: The most common use of Built Products is to account for goods that require assembly before they are ready for sale. Consider the example of the product below, a Blue Necklace. This built product is composed of 3 Components: 1 Pendant, 1 Chain, and 50 Beads. In order to create a finished Necklace for sale, a Work Order would be created instructing an employee to assemble a Necklace. When the Work Order is submitted, 50 Beads, 1 Chain, and 1 Pendant are reduced from inventory. When the Work Order is completed, 1 Necklace is added to inventory. Multiple units can be "assembled" on the same Work Order if necessary.
FBA Bundles: Built Products can also be used for creating Bundles, Kits, or Multi-Pack items that will be sent to Amazon for FBA fulfillment. In this regard, Built Products operate in a similar manner to Kits. Since Amazon requires bundles or multi-packs to be pre-packaged or assembled before arriving at the FBA Warehouse, the Built Product workflow allows you to "Assemble" the kit before sending it to FBA.
